Week 22

Hello Everyone,

It is such a beautiful day outside! I just wish it were warmer! (I am pretty sure I am suffering from Spring Fever. Are you?)

There was some confusion about the presentations for this past Tuesday, so no one was ready. It worked out well because we had more time to review and practice our "Atoms Family" presentation.

Presentations for Weeks 22 and 23 were going to be persuasive speeches wih the presentation focus being "persuading without notes". Week 24 is suppose to be about anything the student wanted to present. I AM CHANGING THESE! Week 23 and 24 will be Impromptu on any topic of the students choosing for no more than 3 minutes. (This should ease the burden of those working on their Memory Mast., Memory Ex., and Memory Pow., as well as our poster!)

I will be available for hearing from Memory Masters/Excellence/Power on Tuesday, March 13th from  12:00 - 4:00. I will also be available on Tuesday, March 20th 12:00 - 2:00. If we do not get finished that day, I can meet with folks during the remainder of Week 24. I know that some of you are in Essentials, but we can still proof during that time with parental permission.

Please keep working on your atom posters being sure that the letter on the back is positioned right for the flip over at the end. If you need a new yellow poster, I got them at Dollar Tree. Bring them to class on Tuesday. Your singing was great and it sounded like most of you knew the song...keep singing! Lastly, get sunglasses! It will be really cool with all of us wearing them. I'll get some too! I am getting the funny glasses with a mustache and big nose for us to wear as we enter as professors!

I put the Trivial Review game away and made notes about where everyone was...Keep studying. Each group had one piece of pie!

Lastly, our marble jar was full! GOOD JOB YOU MASTERMINDS!!! Bring in fruit for our Spring Fruit Fun day on Tuesday. I will bring in the plates and napkins...and water. It should be fun to see what you all come in with. It should be natural fruit!! Fruit Roll Ups are not real fruit!! :)

You all have an awesome week...
Blessings,
Mrs. Black

So much to do...So little time! :)

Hello all...

My children and I are schooling outside today! It is beautiful...but windy! There are some items of business that I want to attend to today with the blog...

***practice the Atoms family song

***try to find a lab coat or two and bring to class this Tuesday (I will bring what I have.)

***bring a pair of sunglasses

***decide what subjects (if you haven't already) that you are going to recite for Memory Excellence and Memory Power and PRACTICE-PRACTICE-PRACTICE!!

***Memory Master candidates should be PRACTICING as well!

***If you have any questions about Memory Anything...write them down and I will have Alison answer them

***If you have not already paid, bring in $1 to cover the cost of the T-shirts that we will be making on Tuesday.

***CC Yearbook orders are due on February 28th. The cost is $22. Make checks payable to Amber Scavo. You can give her the check or put it in her folder in the "Pink Box".

A special thank-you to all the parents that made our Pizza Party such a success! I have the greatest Master Students and the most wonderful Master Moms in the whole world. There is a lot going on right now, so write down questions about anything you have, and I will get the answers. We will "plow" through all this stuff together.

Blessings for a great weekend!

Week 19 was a blast!

Hello Masters and Families,

This past week was lots of lovin' fun with our Valentine's celebrations. I am really enjoying the sweet treats that came my way...and the coffee...and the sweet wishes! Did you enjoy it too? I hope so.

WEEK 20--please bring money for pizza. Our probability lesson will have a pizza topic, and it will be fun to follow it up with a pizza lunch. $3 per person should cover the cost. I will bring the drinks. Let's plan to eat together in the room or the kitchen (if we can), so we have lots of time to visit. Mrs. Harrell's Masters class may be eating pizza too, so we may be able to be all together. FUN!!!

Weeks 20 and 21 bring a new presentation topic and focus. The presentation topic is "Demo Day"--similar to the "Teach It" days we just had. Bring something in to demonstrate...teach a game, how to make something, a song, etc. The presentation focus is the use of a visual aid, which you all are doing very well. Please keep presentations at 3-5 minutes. I am going to have to stop the presentation if it is over 5 minutes. Practice your presentation at home having it end at the 3-4 minute mark, so you can answer questions for the last minute. So...another presentation skill I will be looking for these weeks is staying focused on your material.

Even weeks Presenters: Rachel, Maren, Mary Blake, Anna, Grace
Odd week Presenters:  Rebekah, Macy, Joseph, Cara, Hope

Remember, if you do not have a presntation ready on your assigned week, we may not have time to have you present the next week. You can just wait until your scheduled time.

Be sure to study your memory work each day. Study Geography...we are going to review with the big map again.

Your folk art looked terrific! Have a great week!!
Blessings,
Mrs. Black

Hello Masters and all...

It was exciting to mix the colors in science this week. You all seemed to really enjoy it too! If you have some time this week, mix some at home. Try to make secondary and tertiary colors. Beginning Week 19, we will be working with Probability, and we will continue this through Week 24.

I am so glad that you enjoyed the wordsearch with our music. Romantic and Modern Classical music really have a different sound. But, we all agreed that we heard alot of the same instruments. I will bring another wordsearch for you to take home and turn back in for marbles. Not sure what the topic will be yet! It will be a surprise! We will be starting something new with Fine Arts, as well. We will begin to learn about Great Artists and paint pictures using some of their methods. You may want to bring in one of your dad's big old shirts to use over your clothes!

There were some informative presentations! We all learned alot about sewing, the Chinese New Year, and puppetry. I look forward to what we will learn next week. Anna, you will be up first...thanks for being willing to wait. It will be an odd week. If you are not sure if you present, email me and I will let you know. Please try to keep the presentations to 3-5 minutes. I know it can be difficult with so much to share, but I think it will keep us on track a little better. (and you all know I need help with that) I apologize for going over again this week. I will do better.

Tuesday is Valentine's Day! Bags and stickers will be provided to quickly decorate a "mailbox" for all the Valentines that your fellow Masters bring in. If you bring in Valentine's Day cards, be sure to bring in one for each member of the class. Some of the parents are bringing in a small treat for our celebration. Our class list is:

Hope Agresti
Mary Blake Shupe
Joseph Dees
Cara Neely
Anna Lewis
Maren Shaw
Rachel Richardson
Grace Matthews
Rebekah Thomas
Macy Thurmond

Our review this week will focus on Geography, so be sure to pull out those maps and review-review-review! I think you all will have a good time with the map this week.

I pray that each of you have a wonderful week, and that God will bring us back together safe and sound!

Blessings,
Mrs. Black

Hello there...

Hello Masters Students and Parents...

I apologize for not posting earlier. I have not been feeling well this week. Probably a head cold...lots of coughing and larygitis! It really gets me down not to be able to talk!!

Nice memory with the review game! You all are such good sports. We will do it again soon. Maybe on Tuesday.

This week starts a new topic for our presentations. For the next two weeks, you students will be the teachers. I want you to teach something to the class. It can be a school subject or a science experiment or an art project or a cooking project...use your imaginations. The presentation focus will be "knowing your material." I will be looking for how well you know what it is that you are teaching the class. This week we will hear from Rachel, Maren, Mary Blake, Anna, and Grace. The even week students.

Since we do not spend any class time with the Timeline Cards, be sure that you are practicing them at home, especially those of you that want to try for Memory Master, Excellence, or Power. Also, keep locating those geographical items on your maps.

I hope you all have a great couple of days until we see each other again.

Blessings,
Mrs. Black

January over? ...No way!!

Hello Masters and Parents,

As per the title of this post, it is hard to believe that January is almost over! Time flies when you are having fun.

Thanks to all the presenters last week. You all did an amazing job sharing historical facts. Week 17 is a history topic with the "controlling your body" presentation focus. Weeks 18 and 19 will be "You're the Teacher," so be thinking of what you would like to teach the class. The presentation focus for those weeks will be "knowing your material." I will be looking to see how well you know that material that you will be presenting.

Keep reviewing your work, especially those that will be going to Memory Master, Memory Excellence, or Memory Power. We will play our review game after Science this week, so be sure to study material from Weeks 8 to 16.

Have you found a crazy, weird scientist outfit yet? It is not too early to be thinking about pulling that together. If you know someone that can get us some lab coats to use, please ask. It would be great for each of you to have one.

Lastly, I am so ready to fill our jar...so here is an idea. Bring me in an example of a polymer, and I will add some marbles to the jar.

Hope you all have a blessed week!

Moving Right Along...

Hello all...

It was a real "treat" to watch you all build your Lithium atoms this week! I enjoyed some of those protons, neutrons, and electrons myself after you all left!! My favorite were the red neutrons...I like about anything red.

For weeks 16 and 17, History will be the topic with the presentation focus being body control. I look forward to hearing from Rachel, Maren, Mary Blake, Anna, and Grace.

Remember to be looking for your weird scientist outfit for the end of the year program. We will talk more about this as the weeks roll by. I want it to be fun for everyone! I will make a copy of the song for each student to be practicing.

The art that you created while listening to La Mer by Debussy was impressive. We will do that again this semester. I really liked it.

Lastly, study-study-study that memory work. You all did a great job with your work this past week. I want the marble jar filling up!

You all have a great weekend...

Great to be back!

Being back in class can sometimes be a dreaded experience, but it wasn't for me. I loved it because I got to see all of my Master Students again. Sarah and I both loved the hugs!! I know the classroom was warm which made us drowsy, but thanks to all of you for hanging in there with me. All those atoms and molecules that were mixed together to create that compound was a tasty experiment. You all must have loved it, because there was none left!!

A little bit about the presentations. Here is the revised topic list:

Weeks 14 and 15:  Favorites

Weeks 16 and 17:  History

Weeks 18 and 19:  You're the Teacher

Weeks 20 and 21:  Demo Day

Weeks 22 and 23:  Make Me!!

Week 24: Anything Goes!

>>>The focus for each topic and its explanation is with the schedule that I gave you yesterday. Use that schedule as you prepare. I will comment on whether the presentation was on topic, and the presenter was attempting the focus. If you have any questions, please give me a call or send me an email. (I omitted Geography, Family Traditions, Topic Time, and Improve your Improv from the schedule that I handed out to everyone on Tuesday.) Presenters for next week (Week 14) are Rachel, Maren, Mary Blake, Anna, and Grace. You all should prepare a presentation on "Favorites" with the focus being on "eye contact".

Here is the Atoms Family Song that Mrs. Harrell and I sang in Science yesterday. It might be fun for us to dress up as Albert Einstein-like scientists and sing this at the end of the year program. We could show posters and models of an atoms, and then sing the song together. It might go over better playing the Tin Whistle together, which can be quite a challenge. We can talk more about it later!

The Atoms Family Song
Verse 1
They're tiny and they're teeny,
Much smaller than a beany,
They never can be seeny,
The Atoms Family.
CHORUS
Verse 2
Together they make gases,
And liquids like molasses,
And all the solid masses,
The Atoms Family.
CHORUS
Verse 3
Neutrouns can be found,
Where protons hang around;
Electrons they surround
The Atoms Family.
CHORUS
Chorus
They are so small. (snap, snap)
They're round like a ball. (snap, snap)
They make up the air.
They're everywhere.
Can't see them at all. (snap, snap)

Remember that Mrs. Dees is going to talk more about Memory Master, Memory Excellence, and Memory Power after Opening Session next week, January 10th. Write down some questions to ask her.

Lastly, be sure that each day you are reviewing Geography. Doing a little each day will pay off big in the end, especially if you are planning on going for Memory Master.

It is a joy to spend time with each of you each week. Have a blessed week...
